Is this a Sunnah du’a?

O Allah, forgive me all my sins, small and great, first and last, open and secret.

Answer

This is indeed a du’a that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) would recite. This Hadith has been recorded by Imam Muslim (rahimahullah) and other Muhaddithun.

Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reported that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) would [sometimes] recite the following du’a in Sajdah :

اللّٰهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي ذَنْبِي كُلَّهُ دِقَّهُ، وَجِلَّهُ، وَأَوَّلَهُ وَآخِرَهُ وَعَلَانِيَتَهُ وَسِرَّهُ

Transliteration: Allahummagh firli dhambi kullahu diqqahu wa jillahu wa awwalahu wa akhirahu wa ‘alaniyatahu wa sirrahu

Translation: O Allah, forgive all my sins, minor and major, first and last, those committed openly and secretly.

(٤٨٣) – وحدثني أبو الطاهر، ويونس بن عبد الأعلى، قالا: أخبرنا ابن وهب، أخبرني يحيى بن أيوب، عن عمارة بن غزية، عن سمي مولى أبي بكر، عن أبي صالح، عن أبي هريرة، أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم كان يقول: «في سجوده اللهم اغفر لي ذنبي كله دقه، وجله، وأوله وآخره وعلانيته وسره».
