Question

I saw a Hadith which was referenced to Daraqutni, in which Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said to Sayyiduna ‘Ammar ibn Yasir (radiyallahu ‘anhuma):

“Clothing will only be washed from five things; Urine, faeces, wine, blood and sperm”

Is it authentic?

Answer

Imams Daraqutni and Bayhaqi (rahimahumallah) have recorded this Hadith. However, Imam Daraqutni (rahimahullah) has declared a narrator extremely weak and Imam Bayhaqi (rahimahullah) has declared the Hadith a fabrication (باطل لا أصل له).

(Sunan Daraqutni, Hadith: 458, As Sunanul Kubra of Imam Bayhaqi, vol. 1, pg. 14. Also see: Tanzihush Shari’ah, vol. 2, pg. 73)

The narration is therefore not suitable to quote.

Note:

1) There are many alternate proofs from Quran and Hadith which prove the impurity of the items mentioned in this Hadith. The Hadith in question is not the only proof.

2) I have merely answered your question regarding the authenticity of the Hadith. This should therefore not be viewed as a Fiqh ruling. Kindly consult a Mufti/Darul Ifta for further clarification.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
