Among the most pure of earnings is spoils of war

What is the meaning and the authenticity of this hadith:

أطيب كسب المسلم سهمه في سبيل الله

This narration is recorded in Sunan Sa’id ibn Mansur and Al Alqab of Ash Shirazi. ‘Allamah Munawi (rahimahullah) has declared the chain weak.

(Sunan Sa’id Ibn Mansur, Hadith: 2886, Al Alqab of Ash Shirazi, on the authority of Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Abbas radiyallahu ‘anhuma; Refer: Faydul Qadir, Hadith: 1123 and At Taysir, vol. 1 pg. 166)

This narration is sufficiently supported by other broader Hadiths. Hafiz Ibn Hajar Al ‘Asqalani (rahimahullah) writes that this is the best form of earnings.

(Fathul Bari, before Hadith: 2070)

Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “The most pure of earnings of a Muslim is his share [he acquires as booty] in the path of Allah.”

Since a person would have earned this wealth while out in the path of Allah, it has been termed the most pure. When out in the path of Allah, a person is eager to assist the Din of Allah and to attain martyrdom, and there is nothing purer than this.

(Refer: Faydul Qadir, Hadith: 1123)

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
