Is the following a statement of Sufyan Thawri (rahimahullah) or a Hadith?
اذا ختم الرجل القرآن قبل الملك بين عينيه
When one completes the recital of the Quran, an Angel kisses him between his eyes.
Answer
1. This has been recorded as the statement of the pious predecessor:
Imam Habib ibn Abi ‘Amrah – demise: 142 A.H.
(Shu’abul Iman, Hadith: 1910)
After quoting this, Imam Bayhaqi (rahimahullah) writes that when this was related to Imam Ahmad ibn Hambal (rahimahullah) he liked it very much.
Sufyan Thawri is the one who reported this from Habib (rahimahumallah).
2. Imam Abu Bakr Al-Ajurry (rahimahullah) has cited this statement from Imam ‘Isa ibn Yunus (rahimahullah)

(١٩١٠) – أخبرنا أبو زكريا بن أبي إسحاق، أخبرنا أحمد بن سلمان الفقيه، حدثنا بشر بن موسى، حدثني عمر بن عبد العزيز جليس كان لبشر بن الحارث ح، وأخبرنا أبو علي الروذباري، حدثنا أبو عمرو محمد بن عبد الواحد النحوي، حدثنا بشر بن موسى، حدثنا عمر بن عبد العزيز شيخ له قال: سمعت بشر بن الحارث، يقول: حدثنا يحيى بن اليمان، عن سفيان، عن حبيب بن أبي عمرة، قال: «إذا ختم الرجل القرآن قبل الملك بين عينيه» قال بشر بن موسى: وقال لي عمر بن عبد العزيز: «فحدثت به أحمد بن حنبل، فقال: لعل هذا من مخبآت سفيان واستحسنه أحمد بن حنبل جدا» لفظ حديث الفقيه.

وقال بشر بن الحارث: سمعت عيسى بن يونس يقول: «إذا ختم العبد القرآن، قبل الملك بين عينيه».
