Question

Is this Hadith weak or Sahih?

From Abu Sa’id Khudri, who said: “Whoever reads Surah Kahf on the night of Jumu’ah, will have a light that will stretch between him and the Ancient House (the Ka’bah).”

Answer

This narration appears in Sunan Darimi as a statement of the Sahabi; Abu Sa’id Khudri (radiyallahu’anhu) with an authentic chain. (Sunan Darimi, Hadith:3407)

It als so appears in Sunan Nasai, Mustadrak Hakim and Tabarani’s Al-Mu’jamul Awsat as a Hadith of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam) with slight variations in the wording. Imam Hakim (rahimahullah) has graded his narration as sahih (authentic) and ‘Allamah Haythami (rahimahullah) declared the narrators of Tabarani as authentic; (Mustadrak Hakim, vol.1 pg.564, Majma’uz Zawaid, vol.7 pg.53. Also see: Targhib, vol.1 pg.512)

Note: Some of the other versions besides Darimi’s have this virtue for reciting the surah on Friday, instead of Thursday night. It’s therefore flexible.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best,
