Clarification on an incident regarding Abu Musa Al Ash’ari (radiyallahu ‘anhu)

How is the Hadith in Sahih Bukhari (Hadith: 4397) to be interpreted which states that Sayyiduna Abu Musa Al Ash’ari (radiyallahu ‘anhu) went to a woman to check his hair for lice? Is this permissible or is the chain not authentic?

This Hadith is recorded in Sahih Bukhari and Sahih Muslim. It is therefore authentic!

(Sahih Bukhari, Hadith: 1724, 1795, 4397 and Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 1221. Also see: Sahih Bukhari, Hadith: 1559)

‘Allamah Nawawi (rahimahullah) states that this woman was his mahram. ‘Allamah ‘Ayni (rahimahullah) states that it is possible that this was one of his nieces.

(Refer: Sahih Muslim with Al Minhaj, Hadith: 2948 and ‘Umdatul Qari, Hadith: 1559. Also see: Fathul Bari, Hadith: 1559 and Fathul Mulhim, Hadith: 2933)

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
