Question
What is the explanation of this Hadith?
Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said, “None of you should walk in one shoe. Remove both or wear both”
(Sahih Bukhari, Hadith: 5856 and Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 2097)
I was informed that this Hadith means that we should not walk with mismatched shoes and it does not mean walking with one shoe only. Is this correct?
Answer
I have not come across this explanation of mismatched shoes in any of the Hadith commentaries I have referred to.
The Hadith is quite clear and explicitly mentions that we should either wear both shoes or remove both.
And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
