Question

Where will I find the Hadith of the Sahabi  (radiyallahu ‘anhu) who just accepted Islam (a bedouin) and made du’a that Allah only sends mercy on him and Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) and no one else.?

 

Answer

Imam Bukhari (rahimahullah) has recorded this in his Sahih, Hadith: 6010. The full Hadith is as follows:

Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that a Bedouin once made the following du’a in salah:

“O Allah, have mercy on myself and Muhammad (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam), and do not have mercy on anyone else.”

After the salah, Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said to him:

“You have restricted something very vast.” i.e., the mercy of Allah.

(٦٠١٠) – حدثنا أبو اليمان، أخبرنا شعيب، عن الزهري، قال: أخبرني أبو سلمة بن عبد الرحمن، أن أبا هريرة، قال: قام رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم في صلاة وقمنا معه، فقال أعرابي وهو في الصلاة: اللهم ارحمني ومحمدا، ولا ترحم معنا أحدا. فلما سلم النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم قال للأعرابي: «لقد حجرت واسعا» يريد رحمة الله.
