Question

Kindly translate and provide the reference for this Hadith:

عن عائشة قالت: دخل علي النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم فعرفت في وجهه أن قد حضره شيء فتوضأ وما كلم أحدا ثم خرج فلصقت بالحجرة أسمع ما يقول فقعد على المنبر فحمد الله وأثنى عليه ثم قال: «يا أيها الناس إن الله تبارك وتعالى يقول لكم مروا بالمعروف وانهوا عن المنكر قبل أن تدعوني فلا أجيبكم وتسألوني فلا أعطيكم وتستنصروني فلا أنصركم»

Answer

Imam Ibn Hibban (rahimahullah) has recorded this Hadith and has declared it authentic.

Sayyidah ‘Aishah (radiyallahu ‘anha) reported that Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) once entered the house, performed wudu and did not speak to anyone. She could discern from his face that something had occupied his thoughts. He then left and sat upon the pulpit. He praised and extolled Allah Ta’ala and said, “O People, Allah Ta’ala has commanded you saying, “Enjoin good and forbid evil, else you will call unto me and I will not respond, you will ask and I will not grant you, you will seek assistance but I will not assist.” Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) did not say anything more than this until he descended.

(٢٩٠) – أخبرنا الحسن بن سفيان، حدثنا عبد الرحمن بن إبراهيم، حدثنا ابن أبي فديك، عن عمرو بن عثمان بن هانئ، عن عاصم بن عمر بن عثمان، عن عروة، عن عائشة، قالت: دخل علي النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم، فعرفت في وجهه أن قد حضره شيء، فتوضأ، وما كلم أحدا، ثم خرج، فلصقت بالحجرة أسمع ما يقول، فقعد على المنبر، فحمد الله وأثنى عليه، ثم قال: «يا أيها الناس، إن الله تبارك وتعالى يقول لكم: مروا بالمعروف، وانهوا عن المنكر، قبل أن تدعوني، فلا أجيبكم، وتسألوني فلا أعطيكم، وتستنصروني فلا أنصركم»، فما زاد عليهن حتى نزل.
