Question
Is it proven from Hadith that we should not remove white/grey hair from our head, moustache or beard [when it is over a fist]?
Answer
Hereunder are few Hadiths on this topic:
1) Sayyiduna Ka’b ibn Murrah (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reports, I heard Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) say: “If a person’s hair turns grey/white in Islam, it will be light for him on the Day of Qiyamah.”
(Sunan Tirmidhi, Hadith: 1634, Sahih Ibn Hibban; Al Ihsan, Hadith: 2983, on the authority of Sayyiduna ‘Umar ibn Khattab)
2) ‘Amr bin Shu’ayb reports, from his father, from his grandfather, that Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) prohibited from plucking out the white hair and said, ‘It is the Muslim’s light.’
(Sunan Tirmidhi, Hadith: 2821. Declared sound –hasan– by Imam Tirmidhi)
3) Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reports, Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “Do not pluck out the white/grey hair for it will be a light on the day of Qiyamah. If a person’s hair turns grey/white in Islam, [in lieu of each strand] one good deed is recorded, one sin wiped out and one level increased.”
(Sahih Ibn Hibban; Al Ihsan, Hadith: 2985, Sunan Abi Dawud, Hadith: 4199. Also see: Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah, Hadiths: 26472-26477 and Footnotes of Shaykh Muhammad ‘Awwamah on Musnad Amirul Mu’minin ‘Umar ibn ‘Abdil ‘Aziz, Hadith: 7)
