Question

Somebody told me we can earn over a billion rewards in just a few seconds! By praying a certain du’a we will get the reward of the amount of Muslims there are living in this world as well as those that have passed away. I am not sure what the du’a is?

This is probably being derived from the following Hadith:

Sayyiduna ‘Ubadah Ibn Samit (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:

“Whoever asks Allah to forgive all the believers; male and female, will receive reward equal to the number of people on whose behalf he has asked for forgiveness.”

(Tabarani with a good chain, see Majma’uz Zawaid, vol. 10, pg. 210)

The current estimated number of believers in the world is one billion. If a person begs Allah to forgive them, he will be rewarded accordingly insha Allah. If those who have passed on are added, the number will multiply significantly!

One can do the above using any words, in any language.
