Question

Is this a du’a for a calamity?

سحابة صيف ثم تنقشع

Answer

This is not a du’a. Rather, it was Muhammad ibn Shubrumah’s remark/statement when afflicted by any trial or tribulation.

When any test or trial would afflict Muhammad ibn Shubrumah, he would say:

سحابة صيف ثم تنقشع

Translation: This is merely a [passing] summer cloud which will soon clear.

(Ar Risalatul Qushayriyyah, pg. 444 and ‘Uddatus Sabirin of Imam Ibn Qayyim Al Jawziyyah, pg. 157, Dar Ibnul Jawzi edition)

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
