Question

Is there any authentic Hadith that states that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) visited his mother’s grave and cried?

Answer

Yes, this has been authentically recorded.

Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reported: “Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) visited his mother’s grave. He wept, causing those around him to weep as well. He then said, “I sought permission from my Rabb to seek forgiveness for her but I was not granted permission. I also sought permission to visit her grave and I was granted permission. Therefore, you too should visit graves, for they remind you of death.'”

(Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 976)
