Regarding the Hadith: بني الإسلام على خمس, what harakah will the meem (م) of إقام الصلاة take? Some books have it written with a fathah whilst others have it written with a kasrah or dhammah.
Depending on the grammatical angle of examination, the last letter of the word in question can be recited with either a fathah, dhammah or kasrah. All three manners have been recorded as valid pronunciations.
(Fathul Ilah, Hadith: 4, and Mirqat, Hadith: 4)
It is important, however, to recite the entire Hadith with grammatical consistency. Therefore, if one were to recite the last letter of the word شهادة with a dhammah, then the following words: إقام، إيتاء، صوم، حج should also be recited with a dhammah. And so on and so forth (i.e if it is recited with a kasrah, then the following should be recited with a kasrah and if it is recited with a fathah, then the rest should be recited with a fathah as well).
You may refer to the above mentioned sources for the reasoning behind each recital.
