Question
Kindly confirm the source and authenticity of the following Hadith:
Answer
This Hadith appears in certain non Hadith books. The summary of the Hadith in question is as follows:
“No believing male or female prostrates twice after Witr, recites ‘subbuhun quddusun Rabbul malaikah war ruh’ five times in each sajdah and recites Ayatul Kursi between the two sajdahs, except that Allah will forgive all his sins and if he passes away on that night, he dies as a martyr. Allah will also grant him the reward of one hundred Hajj and one hundred ‘Umrah. Allah will send one thousand Angels to record good deeds on his behalf, he will attain the reward of freeing one hundred slaves and Allah will accept his supplication”
(Refer: Nuzhatul Majalis, pg. 426)
Imam Ibrahim ibn Muhammad Al Halabi (rahimahullah) has declared this narration a fabrication due to the feebleness of the words and the exaggerations mentioned therein. This Hadith should therefore not be quoted.
(Ghunyatul Mutamalli -Halabi Kabir-, pg. 273)
Note:
Reciting ‘Subhanal Malikil Quddus’ after the Witr Salah has been proven in other authentic narrations, without the promise of huge rewards.
Sayyiduna Ubayy ibn Ka’b (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) would recite ‘Subhanal Malikil Quddus’. Some versions of this Hadith state that he would recite it thrice.
(Sunan Abi Dawud, Hadith: 1425 and Sahih Ibn Hibban; Al Ihsan, Hadith: 2450)
And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
