Question

اللَّهُمَّ أَغْنِنِي بِالْعِلْمِ وَزَيِّنِّي بِالْحِلْمِ وَأَكْرِمْنِي بِالتَّقْوَى وَجَمِّلْنِي بِالْعَافِيَةِ

Please provide me with the kitab/source of this du’a

 

Answer

Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Umar (radiyallahu ’anhuma) is recorded to have reported this as the du’a of Nabi (sallallahu ’alayhi wa sallam).

(Tarikh Ibn Najjar and Tarikh Qazwin; refer: Kanzul ‘Ummal, Hadith: 3663 & 3757)

Imam Ibn Abid Dunya (rahimahullah) has also recorded Imam Sufyan Thawri (rahimahullah) stating that this was a du’a that Rasulullah (sallallahu ’alayhi wa sallam) would recite.

Transliteration and Translation:

Allahumma aghnini bil ‘ilm wa zayyinni bil hilm wa akrimni bit taqwa wa jammilni bil ‘afiyah.

O Allah enrich me with knowledge, adorn me with tolerance, honour me with piety and beautify me with safety/good health.
