“Allahumma la takilni ila nafsi tarfata ‘ayn”

Imams Nasai, Hakim, Bazzar (rahimahumullah) and others have recorded this narration. Imam Hakim has declared the Hadith authentic (sahih). Hafiz Mundhiri (rahimahullah) has also declared the narration as authentic. Hafiz Ibn Hajar (rahimahullah) has graded the Hadith as sound (hasan)

(‘Amalul Yawmi Wal Laylah, Hadith: 570, Mustadrak Hakim, vol. 1 pg. 545, Targhib, vol. 1 pg. 457, Nataijul Afkar, vol. 2 pg. 407. Also see Majma’uz Zawaid, vol. 10. pg. 117)

The full narration is as follows:

Sayyiduna Anas ibn Malik (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said to Sayyidatuna Fatimah (radiyallahu ‘anha), “What will stop you from practicing my advice? You should recite the following every morning and evening:

“Ya Hayyu Ya Qayyumu bi rahmatika astaghith, aslih li sha-ni kullah wa la takilni ila nafsi tarfata ‘ayn”

(يا حي يا قيوم برحمتك أستغيث ، أصلح لي شأني كله ، ولا تكلني إلى نفسي طرفة عين)

Translation

O The Ever Living The Sustainer, I seek assistance through your mercy, rectify all of my affairs and don’t entrust me to myself even for a blink.

A similar du’a has also been reported to recite when distressed. See it here.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best
