Question
I’ve read a narration in ibn Majah reported by Abbas ibn Abdul Mutalib (radiyallahu ‘anhu) that the Prophet (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) had a son later in life to a slave woman – Maria ibn Qibitiya (radiyallahu ‘anha). Can you confirm the narration, and it’s grading? And, a narration to how he passed away?
Answer
Rasulullah (sallallahu’alayhi wasallam) having a son by the name of Ibrahim is authentically recorded in Sahih Bukhari (Hadith: 1303) & Sahih Muslim, (Hadith: 5979).
Sayyiduna Ibrahim (radiyallahu’anhu) passed away in his infancy at about 16, 17 or 18 months of age.
(Sunan Abi Dawud, Hadith: 3179, Sharhun Nawawi ‘ala Muslim, Hadith: 5980 & Al-Isabah, number: 400)
I haven’t seen details on exactly how he passed away.
Please be more specific about the Hadith in Ibn Majah, as I could only locate a weak narration therein (Hadith: 1511) on the authority of Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Abbas (radiyallahu’anhuma).
And Allah Ta’ala Knows best,
