Question
What is the status of narrator ‘Asim ibn Abin Najud?
Answer
‘Asim ibn Abin Najud Al Asadi, also known as ‘Asim ibn Badhalah was an expert in the field of Qira’ah. Imams Ahmad, ‘Ijli, Ibn Hibban (rahimahumullah) have declared him credible. Imams Bukhari and Muslim (rahimahumallah) have accepted his Hadiths in their Sahih on condition that he was corroborated (مقرونا).
Imam Ibn Sa’d (rahimahullah) has declared him credible (ثقة) but states that he would err. Other Muhaddithun like Imam Daraqutni (rahimahullah) have also mentioned that he would make mistakes and his memory was not exceptional.
Therefore his Hadiths could be declared sound (hasan) unless proven otherwise. ‘Allamah Dhahabi (rahimahullah) has declared him sound (حسن الحديث) and ‘Hafiz ibn Hajar (rahimahullah) has also echoed similar sentiments (صدوق له أوهام حجة في القراءة وحديثه في الصحيحين مقرون).
