Can this Hadith be quoted?

إذا ختم الرجل القرآن بنهار، صلت عليه الملائكة حتى يمسي، وإن فرغ منه ليلا، صلت عليه الملائكة حتى يصبح

 

Answer

Imam Darimi (rahimahullah) has recorded this narration as the statement of ‘Abdah ibn Abi Lubabah (rahimahullah), a reliable Tabi’i. The narrators are reliable.

‘Abdah ibn Abi Lubabah (rahimahullah) said: “When a person completes the Quran in the day, the angels seek forgiveness for this person until the evening, and when he completes the Quran at night, the angels seek forgiveness for this person till the next morning.”

(Sunan Darimi: 3518. Also see: Hilyatul Awliya, vol. 6, pg. 113)

This narration should be quoted as the statement of ‘Abdah ibn Abi Lubabah (rahimahullah). However, the nature of this narration is not such that he could have made applying logic. It will therefore be understood that he heard it from someone who in turn heard it from Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam).

Imam Darimi (rahimahullah) has also recorded a similar statement of Sayyiduna Sa’d ibn Abi Waqqas (radiyallahu ‘anhu). See it here
