Question

What is the Baytul Ma’mur and can please mention a Hadith regarding it?

Answer

The Baytul Ma’mur is a house of Allah/Masjid for the angels directly above the Ka’bah. Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) saw it during Mi’raj. There is also mention of it in the Quran. (Surah Tur, Verse: 4). It is commonly referred to as ‘The Ka’bah in the sky for the angels’ (Refer: Tafsir Ibn Kathir)

Hereunder are some Hadiths on this topic:

1) Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “…..Then I was shown the Baytul Ma’mur. I asked Jibril about it and he said, This is the Baytul Ma’mur where 70 000 angels enter it daily [for ‘ibadah] and when they leave they never return to it…”

(Sahih Bukhari, Hadith: 3207, Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 164)

2) Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:

“The Baytul Ma’mur is a Masjid in the sky directly above Ka’bah, if it were to fall, it would fall onto the Ka’bah. Each day 70 000 angels enter it and when they leave,  they never return to it”

(Tafsir Tabari, Surah Tur, Verse: 4, Fathul Bari, Hadith: 3207)
