Question
Please mention the status of this Hadith. It would be appreciated if you could quote the Arabic text as well.
It is mentioned in a Hadith that the person who marries to acquire fame then Allah will increase him in disgrace and the person who marries to acquire wealth then Allah will increase him in poverty and that person who marries to obtain family name (pride) then Allah will increase him in ridicule and low position and that person who marries solely for the protection of his gaze, preserving his chastity and to join family ties then Allah will make both partners a source of blessings for each other.
Answer
Imam Tabarani (rahimahullah) has recorded this Hadith on the authority of Sayyiduna Anas ibn Malik (radiyallahu ‘anhu).
The wording is as follows:
Sayyiduna Anas ibn Malik (radiyallahu ‘anhu). says, I heard Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) say: “Whomsoever marries a woman due to her honour/fame, Allah will increase his disgrace. Whomsoever marries her for her wealth, Allah will only increase his poverty and whoever marries her due to her lineage, Allah will only increase him in lowliness/disgrace. Whomsoever marries solely to protect his gaze, his private part or to join ties, Allah will bless her for him and Allah will him for her [i.e. Allah will make both partners a source of blessings for each other].”
(Al Mu’jamul Awsat, Hadith: 2363)
‘Allamah Haythami (rahimahullah) has declared a narrator weak.

The Arabic text is as follows:
من تزوج امرأة لعزها لم يزده الله إلا ذلا، ومن تزوجها لمالها لم يزده الله إلا فقرا، ومن تزوجها لحسبها لم يزده الله إلا دناءة، ومن تزوج امرأة لم يتزوجها إلا ليغض بصره أو ليحصن فرجه، أو يصل رحمه بارك الله له فيها، وبارك لها فيه
And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
