Question

Is this Hadith authentic?

Once a man came to Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) and stood in front of him. Overcome with awe and fear, he began trembling and shaking! The Prophet (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) reached out to him, and said, “Calm yourself down! For I am no king. I am but the son of a woman from the Quraysh who [out of poverty] had to eat dried meat.”

Answer

Imam Ibn Majah (rahimahullah) has recorded this narration on the authority of Sayyiduna Abu Mas’ud Al Ansari (radiyallahu ‘anhu).

Imam Hakim (rahimahullah) has declared the Hadith authentic and Hafiz Dhahabi concurs. ‘Allamah Busiri (rahimahullah) has declared the chain of narrators of Imam Ibn Majah authentic.

(Sunan Ibn Majah, Hadith: 3312, Mustadrak Hakim, vol. 3 pg. 47/48 and Zawaid Sunan Ibn Majah, Hadith: 1084. Also see Mustadrak Hakim, vol. 2 pg. 466)
