Question

Is this narration authentic?

كان المسلمون إذا دخل شعبان انكبوا على المصاحف فقرءوها، وأخرجوا زكاة أموالهم تقوية للضعيف والمسكين على صيام رمضان

Answer

Hafiz Ibn Rajab (rahimahullah) has cited these words and has declared the chain weak.

Sayyiduna Anas (radiyallahu ‘anhu) said: “When Sha’ban would commence the Muslims would devote themselves to the Quran and recite it. They would pay the Zakah due on their wealth to support [enable] the feeble and poor to fast in Ramadan.”

(Lataiful Ma’arif, pg. 242, Al Maktabul Islami edition)

Hafiz Ibn Hajar (rahimahullah) has referenced the following words to a Hadith Juz’; Juz-ul Falaki and has also declared it weak:

Sayyiduna Anas (radiyallahu ‘anhu) said: “When Sha’ban commenced, the Muslims would devote themselves to the Quran and pay their Zakah…”

(Fathul Bari, Hadith: 7338, vol. 13 pg. 310)

The narration is suitable to quote as is the rule with narrations of this nature.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
