Question

What is the reference of the Hadith, “An angel says ‘Amin’ and may you have the same” when a person supplicates for his brother in his absence?

Answer

Sayyiduna Abud Darda (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:

“He who supplicates for his brother in his absence, the appointed Angel says, ‘Amin and may the same be for you too'”

(Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 2732)

‘Allamah Nawawi (rahimahullah) states that making du’a for someone in his/her absence shows sincerity. Therefore this du’a is accepted.

(Al Minhaj, Hadith: 6864)

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
