Question
Is there any virtue mentioned in Hadith for taking care of one’s sisters?
Answer
Hereunder are some Hadiths on this topic:
1) Sayyiduna Abu Sa’id Al Khudri (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “There is no one who has three daughters or three sisters, and he treats them well, except that he will enter Jannah.”
(Sunan Tirmidhi, Hadith: 1912)
2) Sayyiduna Abu Sa’id Al Khudri (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “Whoever take care of three sisters/ daughters or two sisters/daughters educates them/instils them with etiquette, gets them married and is kind to them, will receive Jannah.”
(Sunan Abi Dawud, Hadith: 5104-5105)
3) Sayyiduna Abu Sa’id Al Khudri (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “Whoever has three daughters/sisters or two daughters/sisters, is kind to them and fears Allah with regard to them, [i.e. fulfils their rights etc.] will enter Jannah.”
(Sunan Tirmidhi, Hadith: 1916, Sahih Ibn Hibban; Al Ihsan, Hadith: 446)
Treating one’s sisters well, refers to spending upon them, feeding them, clothing them, being tolerant, showing mercy and nurturing them, as explained in other Hadiths.
(Refer: Fathul Bari, Hadith: 5995, vol. 10 pg. 428 and Tuhfatul Ahwadhi, Hadith: 1912)
See: Targhib, vol. 3 pg. 66-68 for other Hadiths on this topic.
And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
