Question

Is there a narration something to the effect that if a person had an abscess, he must cut it, otherwise it will infect the neighbouring area?

Answer

I have not come across these exact words. However, Imam Hakim (rahimahullah) has recorded a similar narration.

Sayyidatuna Asma bint Abi Bakr (radiyallahu ‘anhuma) says: “An abscess developed on my neck, so I mentioned it to Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam). He said: ‘Open it, do not leave it to eat into the flesh and suck/drain the blood.'”

(Mustadrak Hakim, vol. 4, pg. 408)

حدثنا أبو حفص أحمد بن أحيد الفقيه ببخارى، أنا صالح بن محمد الحافظ، ثنا عبد الرحمن بن عمرو بن جبلة، ثنا عمرو بن النعمان، ثنا منصور بن عبد الرحمن الحجبي، عن أمه، عن أسماء بنت أبي بكر الصديق رضي الله عنهما قالت: خرج في عنقي خراج، فذكرت ذلك للنبي صلى الله عليه وسلم، فقال: «افتحيه، فلا تدعيه يأكل اللحم ويمص الدم».
هذا حديث صحيح الإسناد ولم يخرجاه.
