اجتنبوا أعداء الله في عيدهم
Refrain from [celebrating with] the enemies of Allah on their festive days

Imam Bukhari (rahimahullah) has recorded this narration as the statement of Sayyiduna ‘Umar (radiyallahu ‘anhu) in his At Tarikhul Kabir. Imam Bayhaqi (rahimahullah) has also recorded this.

Imam Bayhaqi (rahimahullah) has recorded a longer version of this narration in Shu’abul Iman. Sayyiduna ‘Umar ibnul Khattab (radiyallahu ‘anhu) said:
“Refrain from [celebrating with] the enemies of Allah, the Jews and Christians when they gather for their festive days, for certainly the wrath [of Allah] descends upon them and I fear that it befall you as well. You do not know their internal condition and you may adopt their character.”

سليمان بن أبى زينب السبأى، روى عنه سعيد بن أبي أيوب، وقال لنا ابن أبي مريم أنا نافع بن يزيد سمع سليمان بن أبي زينب وعمرو بن الحارث سمع سعيد بن سلمة سمع أباه سمع عمر ابن الخطاب: «اجتنبوا أعداء الله في عيدهم».

وأخبرنا أبو بكر الفارسي، أنبأ أبو إسحاق الأصفهاني، ثنا أبو أحمد بن فارس، ثنا محمد بن إسماعيل، قال: قال لي ابن أبي مريم: ثنا نافع بن يزيد، سمع سليمان بن أبي زينب، وعمرو بن الحارث، سمع سعيد بن سلمة، سمع أباه، سمع عمر بن الخطاب رضي الله عنه قال: «اجتنبوا أعداء الله في عيدهم».
شعب الإيمان:
(٨٩٤٠) – أخبرنا أبو بكر الفارسي، أنا أبو إسحاق الأصبهاني، نا أبو أحمد بن فارس، نا محمد بن إسماعيل البخاري، قال ابن أبي مريم: نا نافع بن يزيد، سمع سليمان بن أبي زينب، وعمرو بن الحارث، سمع سعيد بن أبي سلمة، سمع أباه، سمع عمر بن الخطاب رضي الله عنه، أنه قال: «اجتنبوا أعداء الله اليهود، والنصارى في عيدهم يوم جمعهم، فإن السخط ينزل عليهم، فأخشى أن يصيبكم، ولا تعلموا بطانتهم فتخلقوا بخلقهم».
