Question

Please provide a brief explanation of the Hadith that states “Whoever sends a single salutation [durud] upon Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) will be raised ten times in status”

What does “status” mean here? Is it the status in Jannah or spiritual status?

Answer

‘Allamah Munawi (rahimahullah) has explained that rank/status here means ranks in Jannah. i.e., A person will be raised ten ranks in Jannah.

(Faydul Qadir, Hadith: 8810)

Other commentators have stated that his status will be increased in this world, Qiyamah and in Jannah. In this world, he will be given the ability to carry out good deeds, his good deeds will be weighty on the Day of Qiyamah and in Jannah he will be honoured.

(Lama’atut Tanqih, Hadith: 922)
