Imam Tahawi (rahimahullah) has recorded this Hadith.

Abu Khaldah (rahimahullah) asked Abul ‘Aliyah (rahimahullah) regarding Witr. He replied, “The Sahabah of Muhammad (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) taught us that Witr is similar to Maghrib Salah [with one salam only], except that [recitation is obligatory] in the third rak’ah as well. This is the witr of the night and that is the witr of the day.”

شرح معاني الآثار: (١/ ٢٩٣)
(١٧٤٣) – حدثنا أبو بكرة، قال: ثنا أبو داود، قال: ثنا أبو خلدة، قال: سألت أبا العالية عن الوتر، فقال: «علمنا أصحاب محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم أو علمونا أن الوتر مثل صلاة المغرب غير أنا نقرأ في الثالثة، فهذا وتر الليل، وهذا وتر النهار».

نخب الأفكار في تنقيح مباني الأخبار في شرح معاني الآثار: (٦/ ٤٩١)
قوله: «مثل صلاة المغرب» يعني بتسليمة واحدة في آخرها، وبيّن أنهما وتر الليل كما أن صلاة المغرب وتر النهار.
قوله: «غير أنك تقرأ في الثالثة» أي في الركعة الثالثة من الوتر بخلاف المغرب فإنه لا يقرأ في الثالثة منها إلا على سبيل الاستحباب، حتى لو تركها لاشيء عليه، بخلاف الوتر فإن القراءة فرض في جميع ركعاته.
