Question

What is the grade of the following Hadiths?

1)  “Whoever recites ‘Ha Mim Ad-Dukhan’ on Friday night, he shall be forgiven”

2) “Whoever recites Surah Dukhan on the night of Friday then Allah will build for him a house in Jannah”

 

Answer

1) Imam Tirmidhi (rahimahullah) and others have recorded this Hadith on the authority of Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (radiyallahu ‘anhu) with a very weak chain.

(Sunan Tirmidhi, Hadith: 2889, ‘Amalul Yawmi Wal Laylah of Imam Ibnus Sunni. Hadith: 681 and Musnad Abu Ya’la, Hadith: 6224 and 6232. Refer: Mizanul I’tidal, vol. 5 pg. 55, number: 8709 and Taqribut Tahdhib, number: 7292)

 

However, after citing a similar narration recorded as the statement of ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Isa, Hafiz ibn Hajar (rahimahullah) states that this is a good support (shahidun jayyid) for the Hadith in question.

2) Imam Tabarani (rahimahullah) has recorded this Hadith on the authority of Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (radiyallahu ‘anhu).

(Al Mu’jamul Kabir, Hadith: 8026)

 

‘Allamah Haythami (rahimahullah) has declared a narrator of this Hadith extremely weak.
