Question

Where should we place the hands in salah?

On the chest, below the navel or above the navel.

Please reply with an authentic Hadith.

 

Answer

Sayyiduna Wa-il ibn Hujr (radiyallahu ‘anhu) says:

“I saw Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) place his right hand over his left hand, below his navel in salah.”

(Musannaf ibn Abi Shaybah, Hadith: 3959).

Authentication

The narrators of this Hadith have been classified as authentic by Allamah Muhammad ‘Abid Sindi (rahimahullah)

(Atharus Sunan, pg. 90).

Muhaddith Qasim ibn Qutlubugha (rahimahullah) and Shaykh Muhammad Hashim al-Tatwi (rahimahullah) have stated that the chain of narrators for this Hadith is good (jayyid).
