Is this Hadith authentic?

“The believer does not insult, nor curse, nor commit fahishah nor is he foul.”

Answer

Imam Tirmidhi (rahimahullah) has recorded this Hadith.

Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn Mas’ud (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “A believer does not find fault/criticise [people], nor does he curse excessively, nor is he obscene and lewd.”

(Sunan Tirmidhi, Hadith: 1977)

Imam Tirmidhi (rahimahullah) has declared the Hadith sound (hasanun gharib) and Imam Ibn Hibban (rahimahullah) has also authenticated the Hadith.

(١٩٧٧) – حدثنا محمد بن يحيى الأزدي البصري قال: حدثنا محمد بن سابق، عن إسرائيل، عن الأعمش، عن إبراهيم، عن علقمة، عن عبد الله قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: «ليس المؤمن بالطعان ولا اللعان ولا الفاحش ولا البذيء»: هذا حديث حسن غريب، وقد روي عن عبد الله من غير هذا الوجه.

صحيح ابن حبان:
(١٩٢) – أخبرنا أحمد بن علي بن المثنى حدثنا محمد بن يزيد الرفاعي أبو هشام حدثنا أبو بكر بن عياش حدثنا الحسن بن عمرو الفقيمي عن محمد بن عبد الرحمن بن يزيد عن أبيه عن عبد الله قال قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: «ليس المؤمن بالطعان ولا اللعان ولا البذيء ولا الفاحش».
