A Hadith in Sunan Tirmidhi regarding whoever passes away and is free of three things will enter Jannah

Question

Kindly provide the reference for this Hadith:

قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: من فارق الروح الجسد وهو بريء من ثلاث: الكنز، والغلول، والدين دخل الجنة

Answer

Imam Tirmidhi (rahimahullah) has recorded this Hadith on the authority of Sayyiduna Thawban (radiyallahu ‘anhu).

Sayyiduna Thawban (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reported that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “Whoever’s soul leaves his body [i.e. he passes away] and he is free of three things, will enter Jannah; Unpaid Zakah/dues on wealth, stealing from the spoils of war, and debt.”

(Sunan Tirmidhi, Hadith: 1573)

This Hadith is recorded in Hadith collections with the word ‘الكبر’ instead of ‘الكنز’, which means ‘pride’. See this version here.
