Question

Kindly provide the reference for this Hadith:

Answer

Imam Tirmidhi (rahimahullah) has recorded this Hadith on the authority of Sayyiduna Thawban (radiyallahu ‘anhu).

Sayyiduna Thawban (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reported that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “Whoever’s soul leaves his body [i.e., he passes away] and he is free of three things, will enter Jannah; Unpaid Zakah/dues on wealth, stealing from the spoils of war, and debt.”

(Sunan Tirmidhi, Hadith: 1573)

This Hadith is recorded in Hadith collections with the word “الكبر” instead of “الكنز”, which means “pride”.
