Question

Kindly translate the following Hadith and provide the reference:

كل أمتي معافاة إلا المجاهرين وإن من الإجهار أن يعمل العبد بالليل عملا ثم يصبح قد ستره ربه فيقول: يا فلان قد عملت البارحة كذا وكذا وقد بات يستره ربه فيبيت يستره ربه ويصبح يكشف ستر الله عنه

Answer

Imam Bukhari and Imam Muslim (rahimahumallah) have recorded this narration in their Sahih, on the authority of Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (radiyallahu ‘anhu).

(Sahih Bukhari, Hadith: 6069 and Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 2990)

Translation

Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reported that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:

“All the people of my Ummah will be pardoned for their sins/saved from punishment except the ‘mujahirin’. And [mujahirin are those] who commit a sin during the night and tell the people in the morning that they have done such and such, whereas Allah has concealed it. He spends the night in the condition that his Rabb has concealed him, but he awakens exposing the concealment of Allah.”

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best
