Could you provide the reference for this narration?

عن عبد الله قال: أد ما افترض الله عليك تكن من أعبد الناس

 

Answer

This is part of a longer narration wherein Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn Mas’ud (radiyallahu ‘anhu) offered some advices. The narration is recorded in Kitabuz Zuhd of Imam Abu Dawud, Kitabuz Zuhd of Imam Hannad and Shu’abul Iman.

Translation

Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn Mas’ud (radiyallahu ‘anhu) said: “Fulfil whatever Allah has made compulsory upon you and you will become the greatest worshipper among people…”

 

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
