“It is amazing that the son of Adam is arrogant when he came out of the urinal passage twice”

Answer

Imam Abi Bakr ibn Abid Dunya (rahimahullah) has recorded this narration as the statement of Ahnaf ibn Qays (rahimahullah) a Mukhadram.

Ahnaf ibn Qays (rahimahullah) would often sit with Mus’ab ibn Zubayr. On one occasion, when he arrived, Mus’ab had extended his legs and didn’t make room. Ahnaf took his seat, feeling somewhat cramped. In response, he remarked, “It’s truly remarkable how a person can be proud and arrogant, considering that he has passed through the urinal passage twice.” [i.e., At the time of conception and birth]

(٢٠١) – أخبرنا محمد بن سلام الجمحي قال: كان الأحنف بن قيس يجلس مع مصعب بن الزبير على سريره، فجاء يوما ومصعب ماد رجليه، فلم يقبضهما، وقعد الأحنف فزحم بعض الزحم، فرأى ذلك فيه فقال: عجبا لابن آدم، يتكبر وقد خرج من مجرى البول مرتين.
(٢٠٠) – حدثنا أبو خيثمة، حدثنا يزيد بن هارون، أخبرنا حماد بن سلمة، عن ثابت، عن أنس بن مالك، قال: كان أبو بكر يخطبنا فيذكر بدء خلق الإنسان حتى إن أحدنا ليقذر، ويقول: خرج من مجرى البول، مرتين.
