An unreliable narration regarding the punishment of those who criticise and backbite

Question

What is authenticity of following narration?

Answer

This narration is recorded in Tambihul Ghafilin.

(Tambihul Ghafilin, Hadith: 206)

However, the chain consists of an extremely weak narrator with some Muhaddithun declaring him a liar.

(Refer: Mizanul I’tidal, vol. 3 pg. 182, number: 5705)

The following Hadith recorded in Sunan Abi Dawud and Musnad Ahmad should be quoted instead:

Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:

“When I was taken on Mi’raj, I passed by a group of people who had nails of copper with which they were scratching their faces and chests. I said, ‘Who are these people O Jibril?’ He replied, ‘They are those who eat the flesh of people [i.e. they would backbite] and asperse the honour of people.”

(Sunan Abi Dawud, Hadith: 4844 and Musnad Ahmad, vol. 3 pg. 224. See here)

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
