Is this narration suitable to quote?

Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) told the women, “Draw back! For you must not walk in the middle of the road; keep to the sides of the road.”

Then women kept so close to the wall that their garments rubbed against it.

 

Answer

Imam Abu Dawud (rahimahullah) has recorded this Hadith.

Abu Usayd (Malik ibn Rabi’ah Al Khazraji) (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reported that he heard Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) say while exiting the masjid and men and women were intermingling on the road, “Draw back! You should not walk in the middle of the road, keep to the sides.”

The narrator states, “They were then keeping so close to the wall that their garments were rubbing against it.”

(Sunan Abi Dawud, Hadith: 5230)

The Hadith is corroborated and suitable to quote.

‘Allamah Ibn Raslan comments, “This narration illustrates the excellence of the women during that era and their enthusiasm to promptly follow and act upon good when hearing it from someone they revere.”

(Sharh Ibn Raslan, Hadith: 5272)

(٥٢٣٠) – حدثنا عبد الله بن مسلمة، حدثنا عبد العزيز -يعني ابن محمد- عن أبى اليمان، عن شداد بن أبي عمرو بن حماس، عن أبيه، عن حمزة بن أولى أسيد الأنصاري
عن أبيه، أنه سمع رسول الله -صلى الله عليه وسلم – يقول وهو خارج من المسجد، فاختلط الرجال مع النساء في الطريق، فقال رسول الله -صلى الله عليه وسلم-للنساء: «استأخرن، فإنه ليس لكن أن تحققن الطريق، عليكن بحافات الطريق» قال: فكانت المرأة تلصق بالجدار، حتى إن ثوبها ليتعلق بالجدار من لصوقها به.

شرح سنن أبي داود لابن رسلان: (١٩/ ٦٧٦)
(٥٢٧٢) – (وكانت المرأة بعد ذلك تلصق) بفتح التاء والصاد (بالجدار حتى إن) بكسر الهمزة (ثوبها ليتعلق) أي: ملحفتها، أو طوف ثوبها (من لصوقها) بضم اللام (به) أي: من كثرة انضمامهن إلى الطريق، وفيه فضيلة نساء ذلك الزمان واحتراصهن على أفعال الخير إذا سمعوها ممن يعتقدونه ويقتدون به.
