What is the source and authenticity of the following narration?

It is narrated that the crying of a baby at birth until two months is as if the child is testifying to the Kalimah Tayyibah. For four months after this, the child’s crying is reliance upon Allah. For eight months after that, the child’s crying is salutations upon Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam). After this, for two years, the child’s crying is seeking forgiveness for the parents

 

Answer

‘Allamah Sakhawi (rahimahullah) has referenced this narration to Daylami. The wording that appears in Musnadul Firdaws of Ad Daylami is slightly different.

Nevertheless, the chain is extremely weak.

«بكاء الصبي لشهرين شهادة أن لا إله إلا الله ولأربعة أشهر الثقة بالله ولستة أشهر الصلاة علي رسول الله ولسنتين استغفار لوالديه، فإذا استسقى انج الله له من صدغ أمه عينا من الجنة، فيشرب فيجزيه من الطعام والشراب».
