Question
Please verify the authenticity of this Hadith:
Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:
“The best of horses is black with a white patch on the forehead and having whiteness on the upper lip and nose. The next best horse is a black horse with whiteness on the forehead and some white on [three] legs. The right leg does not have any whiteness. If it is not black, then a colour between black and red (i.e., reddish brown approaching chestnut) horse with these same markings.”
Answer
Imam Tirmidhi (rahimahullah) has declared the Hadith authentic (hasanun sahihun gharib). Imam Ibn Hibban (rahimahullah) has also declared the Hadith authentic.

Horses are a great source of Barakah, as mentioned in several Hadiths.
The Ummah needs to pay more attention to this.
Those with the means should invest in horse breeding. Others may even take up horses as a recreational activity, but with the intention of following the guidelines of the Sunnah. This will -insha Allah- bring barakah onto our lives, individually as well as globally.
May Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala inspire us all with tawfiq.

(١٦٩٦) – حدثنا أحمد بن محمد قال: أخبرنا عبد الله بن المبارك قال: أخبرنا ابن لهيعة، عن يزيد بن أبي حبيب، عن علي بن رباح، عن أبي قتادة، عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم قال: «خير الخيل الأدهم الأقرح الأرثم، ثم الأقرح المحجل، طلق اليمين، فإن لم يكن أدهم فكميت على هذه الشية».
صحيح ابن حبان:
(٤٦٧٦) – أخبرنا أحمد بن علي بن المثنى، حدثنا إبراهيم بن محمد بن عرعرة، حدثنا وهب بن جرير، حدثنا أبي، قال: سمعت يحيى بن أيوب يحدث، عن يزيد بن أبي حبيب، عن علي بن رباح عن عقبة بن عامر، أو أبي قتادة، قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: «خير الخيل الأدهم الأقرح الأرثم المحجل ثلاثا طلق اليد اليمنى».
قال يزيد: فإن لم يكن أدهم، فكميت على هذه الشية.
