What is the authenticity of this Hadith?

“Whoever hoards food [and keeps it from] the Muslims, Allah will afflict him with leprosy and bankruptcy.”

 

Answer

Imams Ibn Majah and Ahmad (rahimahumallah) have recorded this Hadith.

Sayyiduna ‘Umar ibnul Khattab (radiyallahu ‘anhu) said, “I heard Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) say: ‘Whoever hoards food away from the Muslims, Allah will afflict him with leprosy and poverty/bankruptcy.”

‘Allamah ibn Kathir (rahimahullah) has declared the Hadith sound (hasan) due to corroboration. Hafiz Ibn Hajar (rahimahullah) has declared the chain of Ibn Majah sound (hasan) and ‘Allamah Busiri (rahimahullah) has graded the chain of Ibn Majah authentic (isnadun sahih, rijaluhu muwatthaqun).
