Question

I have heard that a pious predecessor made the following statement. What is the reference for it?

أكلة الربا مجرب لهم سوء الخاتمة

Answer

‘Allamah Munawi (rahimahullah) has cited this as the statement of Imam Ibn Daqiqil ‘Id (rahimahullah) [Demise: 702 A.H.]

‘Allamah Ibn Daqiq (rahimahullah) said regarding those who consume interest: “They are known through experience to face an evil death.”

(Faydul Qadir, Hadith: 171)

‘Allamah Ibn Hajar Al Haytami (rahimahullah) has also cited this statement of Imam Ibn Daqiqil ‘Id (rahimahullah). However, in this version the warning is issued regarding those who unlawfully consume the wealth of orphans.
