Is this a Hadith?

كثرة النظر إلى الباطل تذهب بمعرفة الحق من القلب

 

Answer

I have not come across these words as a Hadith of Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam). These words could be quoted as the statement of a pious predecessor (named below).

Imam Abu Nu’aym (rahimahullah) has recorded this as the statement of the famous Saint, Ibrahim ibn Adham (rahimahullah) [Demise: 162 A.H.].

Ibrahim ibn Adham (rahimahullah) said: “Excessive exposure to falsehood removes the ability from one’s heart to perceive truth.”

(Hilyatul Awliya, vol. 8, pg. 22)

Some other sources have also referenced this narration to Hasan al Basri (rahimahullah).
