Is this narration authentic?

عن أبي هريرة قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: لا تكثروا الضحك، فإن كثرة الضحك تميت القلب

 

Answer

Imam Ibn Majah (rahimahullah) has recorded this Hadith. Imam Bukhari (rahimahullah) has also recorded the narration in Al Adabul Mufrad.

Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (radiyallahu ‘anha) reported that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “Do not laugh excessively, for excessive laughing causes the heart to die.”

(Sunan Ibn Majah, Hadith: 4193, Al Adabul Mufrad, Hadith: 253)

 

‘Allamah Busiri (rahimahullah) has declared the Hadith authentic and the narrators reliable (هذا إسناد صحيح رجاله ثقات).

(Zawaid Ibn Majah, Hadith: 1418)

 

Imam Tirmidhi (rahimahullah) has recorded a similar narration as part of a longer narration. See here
