Question

What is the authenticity of this Hadith?

Sayyiduna Abu Sa’id Al Khudri (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reported that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “Whoever fasts the month of Ramadan, acknowledges its boundaries and limits, and ensures that he fulfils the rights of Ramadan as he ought to fulfil them, all his previous sins will be forgiven.”

 

Answer

Imam Ibn Hibban (rahimahullah) has recorded this Hadith and has declared it authentic (sahih).

Sayyiduna Abu Sa’id Al Khudri (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reported that Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “Whoever fasts the month of Ramadan, acknowledges its boundaries, observes whatever requires to be observed, his previous [minor] sins will be pardoned.”

(Sahih Ibn Hibban; Al Ihsan, Hadith: 3433)

(٣٤٣٣) أخبرنا الحسن بن سفيان، حدثنا حبان بن موسى، أخبرنا عبد الله، عن يحيى بن أيوب، عن عبد الله بن قرط، عن عطاء بن يسار، عن أبي سعيد الخدري، عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم، قال: «من صام رمضان، وعرف حدوده، وتحفظ ما ينبغي أن يتحفظ، كفر ما قبله».
