Question

Can you mention the reference for this narration and the Arabic text as well?

“My son, do not learn what you do not know until you do not practise on what you know.” Luqman al-Hakim

Answer

This advice of Luqman Al Hakim is recorded in Kitabuz Zuhd of Imam Ahmad and Iqtidaul ‘Ilmil ‘Amal of Khatib Baghdadi.

Muhammad ibn Wasi’ (rahimahullah) said: “Luqman told his son, ‘O My beloved son! Do not learn what you do not as yet know until you practise on what you already know.'”

(Az Zuhd, number: 495 and Iqtidaul ‘Ilmil ‘Amal, number: 85)
