Question

Kindly provide the reference of this Hadith along with its translation:

سَمِعتُ رسولَ اللهِ ﷺ يقولُ: أَوشَكَ الرجلُ أنْ يَتمنّى أنَّه خَرَّ مِن الثُّريّا، وأنَّه لَم يَتَوَلَّ -أو يَلِ، شَكَّ أبو بَكرٍ- مِن أَمْرِ الناسِ شيئًا

Answer

Imam Ahmad and others (rahimahumullah) have recorded this Hadith on the authority of Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (radiyallahu ‘anhu).

(Musnad Ahmad, vol. 2, pg. 377 and vol. 2, pg. 520; Also see: Mustadrak Hakim along with Talkhisul Mustadrak, vol. 4, pg. 91, and At-Targhib Wat Tarhib, Hadith: 3220)

Translation

Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (radiyallahu ‘anhu) has narrated: “I heard Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) saying: ‘[A time will soon come when] a person will be on the verge of desiring that he fell from the Sirius star, and that he never assumed responsibility for a single matter of the people.’”

[i.e., He would have preferred falling to the ground from the Sirius star, rather than having ever assumed responsibility for a single matter of the people.]

(Musnad Ahmad, vol. 2, pg. 377; Also see: Hashiyatus Sindhi, vol. 2, pg. 687)

And Allah Ta’ala knows best.
