Question

Is it true that two snakes will be released upon the disbeliever in his grave? One will be at his head and the other at his feet, they will be biting him until the Day of Qiyamah.

Answer

Yes. Imam Ahmad (rahimahullah) has recorded this Hadith on the authority of Sayyidah ‘Aishah (radiyallahu ‘anha).

(Musnad Ahmad, vol. 6, pg. 152)

‘Allamah Haythami (rahimahullah) has declared the chain sound (hasan).

(Majma’uz Zawaid, vol. 3, pg. 55)

حدثنا روح، حدثنا حماد، عن علي بن زيد، عن أم محمد، عن عائشة، أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم قال: «يرسل على الكافر حيتان: واحدة من قبل رأسه، وأخرى من قبل رجليه، تقرضانه قرضا، كلما فرغتا عادتا إلى يوم القيامة».

مجمع الزوائد: (٣/ ٥٥)
وعن عائشة رضي الله عنها أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم قال: «يرسل على الكافر حيتان: واحدة من قبل رأسه، والأخرى من قبل رجليه يقرضانه قرضا، كلما فرغتا عادتا إلى يوم القيامة».
رواه أحمد، وإسناده حسن.
