Question
I saw this quote from Ibn Qayyim (rahimahullah). Did he actually say this and in which book can this be found?
“The difference between Haram and permissible love is that impermissible intercourse destroys love. It is inevitable that the love between them will end in enmity and hatred as can be seen anyway! Thus every love for the sake of other than Allah ends in hatred and enmity so how about if it is accompanied by the greatest of major sins? (Zina)”- Ibn Qayyim
Answer
This quote is correctly attributed to Imam Ibn Qayyim al Jawziyyah. He has written this in his book; Rawdatul Muhibbin.
Ibn Qayyim (rahimahullah) writes: “The difference between [permissible intercourse and impermissible intercourse] is that impermissible intercourse destroys love. It is inevitable that the love between them will end in enmity, hatred and resentment as can be seen. All love other than for the sake of Allah results in hatred and resentment so what about if this is accompanied by the greatest of major sins [adultery]?”
(Rawdatul Muhibbin, pg. 64-65)
